The Promenade neighborhood invites a home search that starts on foot. Before comparing rooms and finishes, take time to understand the path system, the building entrances and the destinations you would use. The relationship between a home and its surroundings is particularly important when the attraction is the possibility of leaving the car parked for part of the day.

The walking and cycling connection remains the central local feature. Some nearby services and access arrangements have changed, however, so an up-to-date visit matters more than a familiar description of the area.

The greenway gives the neighborhood its focus

The City describes the Edina Promenade as an 80-foot-wide greenway with three-quarters of a mile of separate pedestrian and bicycle pathways, designed as an extension of Centennial Lakes Park. Public art is part of the route. Those are useful details for understanding the public space that anchors the neighborhood. See the City’s Promenade information.

A path visit can also be part of a showing. Notice where your building meets the public route and whether the entrance you would use is convenient from your unit. A ground-level patio, an upper-floor outlook and a home facing a different side of the building can offer quite different experiences even at the same address.

The regional trail is here, with current detours to check

The Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail is part of today’s local recreation network. Its Three Rivers Park District page provides the current map and access information.

As of October 25, 2026, the City lists a trail section east of France Avenue near Centennial Lakes Park as closed through the end of October. Use posted detours and check the official closure notice before planning a continuous outing. A scheduled end date should not be treated as confirmation that a route has reopened.

For everyday use, test the connections with the things you normally carry. A pleasant recreational walk is a different trip from bringing home groceries or returning with a bicycle. Look at crossings, storage and entry arrangements, and consider what changes after sunset or in winter.

Southdale Library is currently closed

Southdale Library at 7001 York Avenue South is closed for renovation. The library currently directs patrons to a temporary holds-pickup and return location at 3519 Hazelton Road. Consult the official location page for service details rather than treating the main building as an operating neighborhood stop.

Hennepin County reports that the service center moved in 2016 and the district courts in 2019. These are separate changes, not services to expect at the closed library site. The library project page explains the building’s transition. No reopening date is assumed here.

Choose the building as well as the neighborhood

For a condominium purchase, start with the unit’s orientation and layout, then broaden the review to the building. How does sound travel from the corridor or outdoors? Where are guest parking and deliveries handled? Is the route from the garage comfortable with bags in hand? These are ordinary questions, but they are central to enjoying a home in a connected setting.

Review the association budget, reserves, meeting minutes and planned work. Clarify responsibility for windows, heating and cooling equipment, balconies and exterior repairs. Ask about restrictions that affect your intended use, including remodeling, pets and rentals. Nearby public amenities should be distinguished from facilities owned or maintained by the association.

For sellers, show that distinction clearly. Describe parking and storage accurately, provide improvement records and photograph the actual outlook from the unit. A precise account of the home is more useful than a promise that every service is a short walk away.
